Arroyo Pacific Academy is a four-year private, independent, coeducational, college preparatory high school in Arcadia, California. We are fully accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The Academy places great emphasis on learning. 

Founded in 1998 by Philip Clarke, the school consistently works to serve the needs of students from local communities throughout the San Gabriel Valley and the County of Los Angeles.  In addition we welcome students from international communities who wish to experience education in the United States.

To date, international students have joined our school from Canada, China, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.


Arroyo Pacific Academy is a coeducational institution, open to local and international students.Priority is given to success in academic achievement. Academic programs are offered to high school students.Recognizing the value and uniqueness of each student as a person with artistic, emotional, imaginative, intellectual, physical, religious, and social potential, the teacher endeavors to lead the students to seek the fullest development of their talents concentrating on intellectual and academic potential.

Our teaching and learning community is committed to supporting our students as they strive for excellence in a college preparatory curriculum that incorporates character formation and the academic competencies and skills necessary for lifelong learning. These concepts remain the embodiment of the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results, which form the basis for the educational program designed to meet the needs of all students.

We help our students to develop the knowledge and skills to communicate, calculate, create, research, and reason. We encourage our students to build a foundation of responsibility, respect, cooperation, and sensitivity to the needs and contributions of others.

We recognize that the process of thoughtful choice and change can best occur in a nurturing environment, one in which students schooled in a shared body of knowledge come to possess a lifelong passion for learning as collaborative workers, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens.


Arroyo Pacific Academy is fully accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The Academy places great emphasis on learning. The course of studies instill good study habits and build confident determination to ensure academic success for each student who works to his/her potential. The curriculum provides students an opportunity to explore, to excel, to experience, and to expand their horizons. Through the courses offered, students are challenged to learn to read with understanding, write with clarity, and listen and speak effectively.

High school students must complete a minimum of 250 units for graduation in a college preparatory program of studies. Each subject completed with a passing mark is equivalent to five units per semester. Students are invited and encouraged to attain the highest grades possible in each class.

The school may waive or modify certain requirements when deemed necessary to meet specific needs or circumstances.   Required subjects and unit totals are listed to the left.

Arroyo Pacific Academy follows the guidelines of the California State Frameworks and the Content Standards adopted by the California State Board of Education to ensure a rigorous and meaningful educational program aligned with our Expected Schoolwide Learning Results for all students.

Arroyo Pacific Academy’s a-g courses that meet requirements for admission to the University of California and the California State University System may be found at not listed on the UC site are still college preparatory.  The purpose of the UC listing is to simplify the admissions process for students applying to UC/CSU schools, and acts as a standard for curriculum covered in each course.  New courses are submitted to UC each year, so this list grows over time.  Arroyo Pacific Academy’s requirements for graduation exceed those of the UC/CSU a-g subject requirements for college admission.

 Arroyo Pacific Academy competes in league with other small schools in the area and offers clubs for students interested in learning a sport.  Our sports programs are developed based on student interest from year to year.   Teams train after school before and during the league season.  Clubs practice during the year based on a schedule determined by the coach and student interest.

Arroyo Pacific founded its rugby team in 2005 and competed under the Eagle’s banner through 2009.  In 2010, our coach moved the team under the Pasadena Rugby banner, creating thatorganization’s U16 and U18 club affiliates of Pasadena Junior Rugby.   Arroyo Pacific athletes and coach continue to take the lead for Pasadena Junior Rugby, and athletes from other area high schools have the opportunity to compete alongside our athletes.


Students have the opportunity to take courses in physical education, fitness, and sports training during the academic year.  Summer training is also available.
